3 Years Old!!

On Saturday Ethan turned the big 3! He has started to act more like a big boy and being more independent although he is also testing limits off and on again. But, for the week leading up to and his birthday weekend he did very well (for a 3 year old). His birthday week started with being able to make his first snow man with Mom and Dad. He had fun helping where he could. He really enjoyed picking out the arms for the snow man. Diego really showed what he loved the most. That was taking the arm off the snow man and eating it. This, however, did not seem to bother Ethan although Dad was a little upset about loosing his arm. Ethan really enjoys playing outside. He has not gotten to too much this winter since it has been cold and windy with little snow. But, I am always amazed how we have so many elementary age kids in the neighborhood, but they all seem to disappear when winter comes. Seems like I remember playing outside so much in the snow and all the neighbors back yards look untouched.

I also made cupcakes to send to school. They were suppose to be penquins, but I think they look more like owls. They were a big hit both at school and the extras at work. I did manage to even have extras so Rob could have one too.

Saturday, Ethan's birthday, he was very happy and excited. For the first time he can remember he had both Grandparents there at the same time. When the second set came in he said, "I have two grandmas and grandpa!". This was just the greatest thing to him. It is like you could see the connection being made. He always knew he has two sets, a Wisconsin and an Indiana set, but I think he fully gets it now. That they can both exist at once.

About 10AM Ethan went off with Grandparents Pavlik to the Science Museum (where he is no longer free) and the to Chuck-e-Cheese for the 1st time. He even had Grandma call to see if they could play a few more games and be a little late for his party. Which Mom said was okay since all the guest where not there yet.

While he was away, Dad and Grandpa went on errands for us. Picking out balloons and getting froasting. Mom and Grandma started on his cake. He had a fire engine cake that was fun to make and turned out fairly good. Up close it kind of looked like it might have rolled over once, but that has more to do with the cake doming up when it cooks and it being the first three-D cake made by me. The guys helped out with the cake by getting froasting and eating the left overs. After the cake was prepared we blew up LOADS of balloons to go with the giant fire engine balloon that Dad and Grandpa picked out at the party store. When Ethan arrived he was shocked to see all the balloons. He was just in heaven! Add to that there were presents and he was loving it! He loved all of his presents so much, so thanks to everyone that sent gifts. When it was all over we cleaned up the room, after a brief balloon batting galore moments. Which poor Diego just laid through looking sad and like he did not know what to do. by putting the balloons in Diego's crate which of course Ethan got into. There were so many that at times you could not even see Ethan in there. We even got Grandpa Harman in there too. Afterwards we all went to dinner at Red Robins where tons of people where having birthdays including Ethan. Ethan loved all the singing and of course the free dessert.

The next day he showed of his computer skills to his Grandparents and then had to say Good-bye to them as they headed off to home. He did not give any hugs since he thought they would stay if he did not. Unfortunately, he was wrong. But, when we told him we would go to Toys R Us to spend his gift money and the $3 card the store sent him he was happy again. He did really good spending. He had $23 to spend. At first he picked out some Bob the Builder things but then he saw a large dump truck and wanted that. So he had to put one Bob the Builder back, which he did no problem. Then on the way to check out he saw Hot Wheels and wanted a package of 5 pick-up trucks. So he had to return the other Bob the Builder toy. Which he definately did. Ethan knew what he wanted and could not be swayed from the choice. He gave the cashier his money and gift card and somehow managed to spend $18 and no change! So he even got $2 back. Which thinking now, he still has in his coat pocket at day care..... Of course once we got home he played with the toys he picked all night. Even bathing with the new Hot Wheels. Unfortunately, Ethan had his new dump truck taken away for a day that night when he was being bad at bed time and kicking while getting his jammies on. He knows that he must be good a full day to get it back, so we will see how he does. He can see it ontop the kitchen cabinets so it will hopefully remind him to behave tonight.

So, Ethan had a great birthday. And is enjoying being 3 so far. Everyone should also wish Robert luck since he will have Ethan alone for 4 days while I go away to San Antonio with a friend from college. I am sure they will be fine. Ethan likes hanging out with Dad. Usually means good food, cartoons, and possibly staying in his underwear only all morning and maybe even afternoon on the weekend!
